Evil Cats Destroy Lives In Europe

Perlers (Melty Beads)

For many years now my main artistic hobby has been making art out of Perler brand melty beads. I generally use or tweak existing designs and have given away many pieces as thank you’s for Extra Life donations. Since we’ve got quite a few pieces up around our Urgezes home I thought I’d show them off in a post!

First, in Michelle’s mermaid themed bathroom there are a couple of cute pieces in the bathtub/shower. Since they are made of plastic they are perfect for humid or even wet locations! Michelle requested that I make more square pieces like the seahorses to do a bit of a mosaic so that will be an upcoming project.

Next up, our kitchen. On either side of our sink I’ve got a couple pieces. I plan on doing a few small bits to go in between each pair.

And above the stove we have meme-Elmo warding away evil fire spirits.

Michelle made yummy salads for dinner!

And finally our media room. Our largest installations are definitely Star Wars.

My newest set shows off some characters from Stranger Things above the door to the room.

And finally we have a Metroid…

And the largest piece I’ve ever done (which came with us from Medford), Samus (from the game Metroid)!

I have lots of plans for future projects but it has been hard to source melty beads here in Europe. If you are coming to visit and have some room in your bags, I’ll probably send some bags of beads to your house to fill up the empty space!

  1. You are quite the artist. They are so cheery and fun. A great way to start the day. I have a question. Did Portugal have a blackout a few days ago? If so, did it affect you.

    • Thanks Aunt Peggy!

We did have a blackout, our power went out around 11:30am and came back on almost exactly 12 hours later. The whole Iberian peninsula went out as a cascading failure in response to a massive and as yet unexplained instantaneous loss of power production in Spain.

Thankfully our day was pretty normal. We have a gas stove and plenty of battery powered lights that we normally use outdoors. We went for a really long walk (M had a doctors appointment) and then to bed early.
