Evil Cats Destroy Lives In Europe

Porto Street Art And A Tuk Tuk Tour

Our adventures continued in the fabulous and fabulously hilly city of Porto. We were all quite optimistic about our leg endurance after the climb at Bom Jesus so we set off on a self guided tour of the city’s street art. I started seeking out and photographing street art on my first trip to New York in 2013 and still think it is fantastic way to see a city. Some of the “be your own guide” directions led us up, down and around massive staircase mazes and unfortunately, at times, the art we were seeking had either been removed or simply eluded us. After our more or less successful day of graffiti searching we were glad to get off our feet as we took a Tuk Tuk tour of some city sights.

These pieces seemed to be intended art, but don’t hold it against me if I miscategorize some of these – the art in Porto was consistently very high quality.

This next batch of more traditional graffiti art are no less eye catching than the murals.

The city offered plenty of non graffiti based views and architecture, I’ll share a couple of my favorite shots here.

We had such a blast on the Tuk Tuk tour with highlights being the city market, a trip back and forth across some of the majestic bridges, a sunset on the hilltop across the river looking back down onto the city, and of course making silly faces at each other at stoplights. We also get a really great explanation about the murals in the São Bento train station which tell the history of Portugal.

Porto has so much to offer, it has a super cool vibe without losing a connection to historical importance. It has a fantastic mix of modern and ancient. There are a ton of things to explore here and it seemed like an explosion of cultural events, nightlife options, and gastronomic treats compared to our sleepy fishing town. We will absolutely be back to Porto for more adventures.
